IBA Justification

The site was identified as important in 2002 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species'):
Species Current IUCN Red List Category Season Year(s) Population estimate at site IBA criteria met
Black-faced Spoonbill Platalea minor EN winter 1995-2000 12-23 individuals A1, A4i
Chinese Egret Egretta eulophotes VU passage 1996 1 individuals A1
Spoon-billed Sandpiper Calidris pygmaea CR winter 2001 1 individuals A1
Saunders's Gull Saundersilarus saundersi VU winter 1995-2001 77-147 individuals A1, A4i

The current IUCN Red List category may differ from that which was valid at the time of IBA criteria assessment (2002).
